It's Official! MFWA2017 has Kicked Off!

Fashion Week kicked off last Friday night with the official Launch Party held at the hip MedAsia Playa in Sliema. It was the most fashionable party of the year held at one of the most fashionable places and all the guests in attendance were dressed to the nines and in a very jovial mood!

It was a fun night to catch up with fellow bloggers, designers, photographers and just generally network with people in the fashion industry in a relaxed atmosphere prior to a rather hectic (but very rewarding and enjoyable) experience that is the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week.

However, just a few hours before, I was quite panicked as I still didn't know what I was going to wear on the night so in the morning I headed to Valletta with my partner in crime Marija and thank God I managed to find a skirt at the last minute!

Fashion Photography Exhibition

While in Valletta, we took the opportunity to visit the Fashion Photography Exhibition at Pjazza San Gorg, right in front of the old parliament building. Unfortunately, we could only catch a glimpse of the exhibition from behind the railings as there was an activity in conjunction to Malta's EU Presidency taking place.

In fact, to celebrate Malta's presidency, this year, the exhibition features work from one fashion photographer from each EU member state. The exhibition features 28 large format posters printed on high quality canvas for everyone to admire all throughout the day during Malta Fashion Week.

Malta Fashion Week Press Conference

The Malta Fashion Week is not just a showcase of local and foreign talent where fashion design is concerned, it is also an opportunity for Malta to cement itself as a fashion hub. With Valletta in the run-up for being European Capital of Culture next year, it is only natural that the country's most fashionable week happenings take place in our capital city once again this year.

The Location - Fort St. Elmo

This year, all of the shows and exhibitions from 19 designers will take place at Fort St. Elmo, strategically located at the very tip of the Xiberras peninsula. The fort was built by the Knights of the Order of St. John to be able to better defend the ports of Marxamett and the Grand Harbour following an attack by the Ottomans in 1551. It took 6 months to complete the building as instructed by military engineer Pietro Pardo under the supervision of Knight Fra Leone Strozzi.

Fort St. Elmo suffered it's first attack during the Great Siege of 1565 on the 28th of May that same year and succumbed to the Ottomans on the 23rd of June, after almost a month of continuous bombardments day and night. However, following the Victory of the Knights of St. John three months later, plans for a new, fortified city on Mount Xiberras started to take shape. Today we have the city of Valletta proudly overlooking the harbours.

Along the years, structural alterations were carried out on the fort both from the Knights and the British until 1972 when the Royal Malta Artillery left the fort. The Malta Police Force used the upper part of the fort as a Police Academy, which has now been restored and is now housing the Military History Museum.

I really cannot wait for the sun to shine tomorrow and kick off the first shows of the 7th edition of the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week and the 19th edition of the Chamilia Fashion Awards! Bring it on!

Gorgeous Eyes in a Blinc!

Remember my introductory post to Blinc Cosmetics? After having had the chance to review two mascaras and an eyeliner from the brand, this is what I have to say about them.

First off I am going to review the mascaras, both of which feature the innovative tube technology through which the mascara forms tiny, no-smudge, water resistant tubes around each of your lashes instead of painting them like a conventional mascara. At the event we were given a sample of the Mascara Amplified in Black and I also purchased the original Mascara in Dark Green.

The difference between the two is that the Mascara Amplified can be built up with several coats to achieve the desired length and volume of the lashes while the original Mascara only enables application of one coat. Also, the Amplified Mascara comes only in Black and Brown while the original Mascara comes in an array of 6 shades. Both mascaras come in a purple tube which I am guessing serves to representing the whole tubing mascara concept and I'm digging it!

Both formulas are smudge-proof, water resistant and sweat-proof. Another thing that distinguishes Blinc Mascaras from those of other brands, is that it only takes warm water and gentle pressure to take them off. In fact you can actually see the tubes on the cotton disc! This eliminates the use of eye makeup removers, thus making Blinc mascaras perfect for individuals with sensitive eyes.

I tried both mascaras on consecutive days to see how they compare and the only difference I could see was the way my lashes looked. As far as the Amplified Mascara goes, my lashes looked more voluminous with respect to when I used the original Mascara. Both mascaras lasted all throughout the day without smudging and they only came off when I gently rubbed my eyes in the shower late in the evening. As for the Dark Green Mascara, I really like the colour but it doesn't really show up unless you're up close. The final verdict on these mascaras is still a good one though! I highly recommend them if anything for their incredible staying power!

Blinc Mascara in Dark Green & Liquid Liner in Black

I was also given a sample of the liquid Eyeliner in Black. Now I have to come clean here and confess that I am rubbish totally incapable of applying liquid eyeliner without making a huge mess and end up looking like a panda. What I did was apply my usual gel liner on the lash line as a guide and then proceeded to apply the Blinc liquid liner over it and it helped make it last longer without budging. I am very impressed with the pigmentation and fluidity of the Blinc liner. It's extremely black and once it dries, it won't budge - unless it's peeled away!

So would I recommend Blinc products? I definitely would to anyone with a busy lifestyle but as far as volume is concerned, I have mascaras which volumize my lashes better so for a glam look I would opt for an alternative mascara and top with the Blinc ones for longer lasting makeup! Other than that, all three Blinc products have impressed me greatly with their staying power!

**Try your luck at winning two products from the Blinc range in the giveaway running on my Facebook page - open till the 2nd of June 2017**

Blinc Mascara Amplified and Eyeliner were given to me by Paloma Cosmetics Ltd. for consideration while I purchased the Dark Green Mascara with my own money.

Fashion meets Travel in Sicily

The month of April saw the beginning of some amazing friendships and a fun, jam-packed weekend in Trapani, Sicily which I will look back to fondly in the weeks, months and years to come :) Sicily is a beautiful island with picturesque scenery all around, thus, the organizer, Grazielle surprised us by co-ordinating a very colourful photo-shoot in collaboration with United Colours of Benetton Malta to make the most of the beautiful backdrops that this country offers.

She got us all different coloured tops and matching bags and managed to keep it all a secret until Saturday morning! Grazielle also got us colourful hoop earrings from Primadonna Collection (Sliema). Originally, we were meant to take the photos in the ancient ruins of Segesta temples but since it was raining, our driver took us in the vicinity of Marsala where the weather was thankfully much better and we stopped to take pictures in the middle of fields and later to an idyllic beach at Paceco dubbed Tahiti by the Sicilians. The latter provided the perfect summery background to match the colourful tops and our good mood!

So you see, casual can be fun and bright! Special thanks go to guest photographer Ron Kerr for the amazing job he did with capturing some perfect moments with all these beautiful ladies, the company of whom I enjoyed very much!

Skin Protect Ocean Respect with Eau Thermale Avène's 2017 Summer Skin Care Range

Hello everyone! The month of May is quite an exhausting one in terms of events with new launches and shop opening happening almost every day and Fashion Week is just less than two weeks away. However, despite being too hectic, there are events organized by certain brands that I wouldn't miss for the world; a case in point are all events organised by Pharma.MT.

In fact, on Thursday evening, I was invited to the launch of some new summer skin care innovations from Eau Thermale Avène which took place at Villa Arrigo, one of the best venues on the islands. Even though the weather sometimes suggests otherwise, summer is most definitely around the corner thus it is time to really start piling up on the SPF products.

Eau Thermale Avène already have a full range of sun care products which I use on a daily basis but of course, with the brand being partnered with the European Skin Cancer Foundation (ESCF), the researchers at Avène are always on top of their game and are coming up with new products every so often to make sure the most sensitive of skins are protected. This year, Eau Thermale Avène are also launching a new campaign titled Skin Protect Ocean Respect which aims at better conservation of the environment, the oceans and marine life through improved biodegradable formulas and eliminating the use of substances classified as toxic for marine organisms. More information about this campaign can be accessed at eau-thermale-avene.com.

Dr. Marco Ambonati introduced the new products during last Thursday's event, namely SunsiMed and some new High Protection (SPF 50+) sun creams for sensitive skin.

The biggest innovation for Eau Thermale Avène this year, is SunsiMed which is actually a product that is marketed as a Class I medical device as it aids in the prevention of some of the most common skin cancers - Actinic Kertosis, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma.

The Pierre Fabre Institute, which is where all Eau Thermale Avène products are researched and developed, has designed SunsiMed specifically for skins that are hypersensitive to the sun. SunsiMed provides very high protection against UVA and UVB rays and thus prevents the formation of certain types of skin cancer and photo-aging. SunsiMed also features a patented photo-stable formula that offers a very broad spectrum of coverage and features Eau Thermale Avène's dry-touch texture, is fragrance free and is water resistant. Like all other Eau Thermale Avène products, SunsiMed features sterile packaging with precise dosage thanks to their specially designed pump. It is important that you follow your dermatologist's instructions when using this product.

Eau Thermale Avène sun care range also caters for oily and acne prone skin with their Clenance Solaire SPF 50+ which also has a Dry Touch texture and regulates sebum production thus keeping the skin looking mattified. Moreover, there is also a range for children, again with SPF 50+. Lastly, there is a new After-Sun Repair Lotion and the classic Thermal Spring Water Spray for when you need to refresh your skin.

Eau Thermale Avène products are sold in pharmacies.

3INA Art Freedom Limited Edition Collection

3INA just launched a new limited edition collection - Art Freedom. The collection features daring metallic lip colours, bold reflective eyeshadows, mirror nail polishes and highlighters and is the result of a collaboration with Lockhart Emroidery. The later belongs to Marie Sophie Lockhart, a Parisian-born, Brooklyn-based folk embroidery artist who focuses on creating unique designs to spice up otherwise boring denim pieces.

In fact, her philosophy for creativeness transcends effortlessly into this makeup collaboration with 3INA, which has also established itself as a creative makeup brand with a unique array of non-conventional colours all throughout their products.

To reflect this whole creativity concept I created two looks using products from the 3INA Art Freedom limited edition collection.

Look 1 - Metallic Lip Ring

For this look I used the green and yellow eyeshadows from the Eyeshadow Palette (€14.95) and I used the Long Lasting Lipstick 511 (€7.95) to create a metallic red 'lip ring'. I also used 3INA The Blush 100 and 3INA The Eyeliner 506 which are available in 3INA's core collection.

Look 2 - Halo Eyes

For the second look, I used the pink eyeshadows from the same palette to create a halo effect eye look and I paired it with the Long Lasting Lipstick 510 (€7.95).

I also got the Mirror Nail Polish 501 (€6.95). Application was a little tricky with this one as thicker coats are key to achieving the mirror look flawlessly.

I am really happy with my picks from this collection as pigmentation is excellent and staying power is really good especially for the price.

3INA Art Freedom Limited Edition Collection is available now at 3INA stores in Qormi (near PAVI), PAMA Mosta and at The Point, Sliema.

ALDO opens at Baystreet!

ALDO Shoes have opened a new outlet in Baystreet Shopping Complex St. Julian's and what better way to celebrate than with a cocktail bar and a crowd of beautiful people enjoying the new collection of on trend shoes, bags, and accessories?!

For this Spring/Summer season, ALDO is proposing a palette of nudes, metallics. graphic prints and embroidery and classic blacks as well as the ubiquitous tan and mustard shades. I always love walking into an ALDO Shoes store as everything is perfectly displayed and I just generally love their collections. I would love to see smaller sizes though as with my small feet I struggle to find shoes that are not too big for me. Having said, I still managed to walk out with a bag and earrings just in time for this year's edition of Malta Fashion Week and Awards!

Head down to ALDO at Baystreet for the latest trends in shoes, bags and accessories for both men and women!
